SAGT was established in 1970 (legend has it at the top of Kindrogan Hill!) and now has a membership of around 600.  We are looking forward to celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Association in the next few years hope that you will be able to join us in continuing to promote and enhance the learning of Geography across Scotland.

As Geography teachers we are enormously proud of SAGT and work hard to ensure we remain one of the most active subject associations in Scotland. There are various advantages to membership which extend well beyond the obvious networking opportunities. Members receive the Scottish Geographical Newsletter at various points throughout the year; these also include our journal entries. Newsletters are emailed that summarise the discussions from committee meetings and help keep the membership abreast of any changes relating to Geography teaching in Scotland. There is also an Annual Conference in late Oct or early Nov which is attended by approximately 300 members and an Annual Excursion in June. Membership of the SAGT Facebook Group and access to our Google Drive of resources is proving useful for networking and reducing workload.  This is a great way to share our expertise and we very much hope that you will be happy to contribute to this facility.

The Association is regularly consulted by SQA and other bodies about various Geography matters and SAGT strives to ensure that the views of the membership are well represented in any discussions relating to policy change.

Annual subscriptions are due in June of each year and we would strongly encourage all members to pay by direct debit as it is the simplest way to keep membership up-to-date. Any members who have previously paid by cheque are requested to download a direct debit mandate from the website and return to Joanna by mid June for a first collection date of 30th June, of course if you would rather pay by cheque you can do.

Membership fees for 2023/24:

  • Full Member                             £30
  • NQT / Retired Member           £15
  • PDGE Teacher Member          Free membership

Please do get in touch at any time throughout the year to keep us informed of any changes to personal details (both personal and school information) so that you receive all mailings and updates from the SAGT.
